Processing of Personal Data

Data protection is a basic right, which safeguards the rights and freedoms of the registered person with regard to the processing of personal data. Everyone has the right to the protection of their personal data.

EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into application on 25th May 2018. The basic principles of personal data processing and the rights of the registered person remain largely unchanged. The person will continue to have the right for example to check the data concerning them and request that incorrect data is corrected or unnecessary data will be deleted.

Data protection is an essential part of good governance and service in the municipality of Pielavesi. This page contains the principles of processing the personal data and information on how the personal data is handled in the municipal services.

After the year changed to 2023, organizational changes affect the processing of personal data. The register keepers of many services change. Municipal citizen’s rights to their own data

The municipality of Pielavesi gathers their customer’s personal data to the extent that it is necessary for providing services. With regard to the data gathered in the register, the registered person has the right to know what information is collected about them. If the information is wrong, the customer can demand to correct the incorrect information.

Generally, in municipal services, the processing of personal data is based on the performance of a legal obligation by the municipality or the exercise of the official authority vested in a public authority. If the processing of personal data is based on consent, the registered person has every right to withdraw their consent in any time.

The information is collected for different registers according to the purpose of use, and the registers are covered by privacy policy. The privacy policies inform who is the register keeper and who is the contact person for the register. The privacy policy contains the purposes for which the data is processed and other necessary information.

The register keeper has to be able to confirm the registered person’s identity, who uses the data protection rights. In order to identify the registered person, the electronic form should be sen via Suomi.fi messages. Informing the registered person – Privacy Policy

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU 679/2016) requires the register keeper to inform the registered person of the purposes and means of the processing personal data, i.e. what personal data is recorded in the registers, how they are processed, where they may be disclosed and for how long they are kept. Through informing, the registered person gets information about their rights and about the quarter with which they can contact to exercise their rights. The Eu General Data Protection Regulation is complemented by National Data Protection law (1050/2018).

As the register keeper, the municipality of Pielavesi uses privacy policy to provide information in accordance with the GDPR. Each of the municipal service unit and its person in charge are responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of its own privacy policy.
